PERFECT FLUFFY QUINOA EVERY TIME!
I’ve been eating quinoa in place of rice and pasta for some time now and am so loving it! There are so many great benefits of quinoa which is why it is called the supergain! Quinoa is full of fiber and has the highest amount of protein compared to any other grain! It contains all 9 amino acids, is low in carbohydrates, is high in iron and it’s gluten free! These are just some of the key highlights about quinoa that can be found online, adn there is so much more. For me, I love that after eating quinoa I feel light and not bloated. Not only can quinoa be made to pair with other savory dishes such as stews, you can also use quinoa to make a variety of breakfast, salad and dessert recipes! Making quinoa could be any simpler, simply rinse your dry quinoa under running water for 1-2 minutes and then toast it in a saucepan over medium heat until all the water has evaporated. Once all the water has evaporated you can add any additional flavoring such as some dried spices and a touch of olive oil and continue toasting for an additional minute. Then all you do is add the liquid of your choice – water, chicken stock, vegetable stock, turkey stock or beef stock. Bring the quinoa to a boil the cover the pot with a lid, turn the heat to the lowest setting and continue cooking for around 15 minutes. And the voila! Use a fork to fluff your quinoa and your ready to serve!
How to Cook Quinoa
- ½ cup quinoa
- ¾ cup water chicken stock, vegetable stock or turkey stock
- Rinse quinoa by placing it into a sieve and run water over it for approx. 2 minutes, thoroughly rinsing it. Add rinsed quinoa to a medium sized saucepan. Turn heat to medium and toast quinoa, stiring occasionally, until all the water has evaporated and the quinoa begins to turn a slight golden brown and smells nutty.
- OPTIONAL: At this stage you can add any additional flavorings such as a 2 teaspoons of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of grated garlic or a pinch of sesame oil and toss with quinoa and continue toasting for an additional minute.
- Add water/liquid and bring to boil. Once water begins to boil turn heat to low and cover pot with lid. Allow quinoa to cook for 15 to 20 minutes until the water has been fully absorbed.
- Use a fork to fluff cooked quinoa and serve!
